Memphis Slim's House of Blues

Memphis Slim’s House of Blues

by Melanie Burton

Adelaide is all about the hidden bar scene, and the crew from Cry Baby have launched two new bars on Glibert Place, in the former Red October site.

They have separate entrances, and on ground level is Shotgun Willie’s – which has a Wild West vibe, while below ground is Memphis Slim’s House of Blues – a blues bar with a focus on cocktails.

You have to descend the flights of stairs in almost complete darkness, before entering a cool, moody basement bar that gives you all the Chicago feels. They have live blues playing every Saturday night, which they’re wanting to extend to more than once a week. The bar menu is focused on a rotating American cocktail list, but you can also order gin, wine or beer if that’s more your thing.

The dim lighting, and exposed brick have a sophisticated feel, and the place gives off such an edgy, historic, yet modern vibe. The team even built the jarrah bar and tables themselves, and the tables and stage were made with materials from the old Prince Alfred College basketball court. Definitely a go to for Friday night drinks.
